“We’ll Be Like The Roots” – Meet TeaParty’s Hypothetical House Band, Southern Belle

Full disclosure: TeaParty really loves Southern Belle. It’s probably no surprise to anyone who has been paying attention. After their entrancing performance at our Haiti earthquake relief benefit, we signed on to help out with their Broke After VDay show at Middlesex Lounge earlier this month and invited them to play alongside another TPB favorite, Mystery Roar, for the final installment of our TeaRoom Tuesdays concert series at the Lizard Lounge. We finally got a chance to talk with frontman, multi-instrumentalist and producer Isom Innis about the group’s history, and promising future.

Leisure and Viva Viva Sell Out TPB’s Second TeaRoom Tuesday at Lizard Lounge

Last night was the second installment of TPB’s month-long residency at the Lizard Lounge in Cambridge. The crowd came early for the buttoned-up, symphonic pop of swaggering newcomers Leisure and stayed for the throbbing and swaying garage rock of Viva Viva.

TPB Kicks Off TeaRoom Tuesdays at Lizard Lounge with Shoney Lamar and The Equal Rights and Sea Monsters

Last week saw TeaParty’s inaugural TeaRoom Tuesday at the Lizard Lounge in Cambridge. Showgoers, gallantly unfazed by partying on a weeknight and/or missing the season premiere of Lost, got an earful from two vastly different acts, held together by the common threads of passion and talent.

TPB To Do List

Again, we want to thank everyone who came out for our earthquake relief benefit on Monday, and would like to encourage you to keep donating (check out the handy link at the top of our page). There’s plenty more Haiti relief events happening in the coming weeks, which have been helpfully rounded up by the lovely Christine Liu over at CitySearch, here.

As usual, we’ve taken it upon ourselves to round up the best shows happening this weekend because, to quote Freezepop, “we just wanna rokk.”

TPB To Do List

We hope you got to usher out the Oughts with a bang, but that was, like, a whole week ago. No one cares what you did in 2009, man. It’s 2010. Clean up the empty Champagne (of Beers) bottles and scrape the confetti off the soles of your party shoes– you’ve got a whole new decade to debauch.

NYE: What The Hell Are You Going To Do?

Is 2009 over already? Seems like just last week it was Christmas… Anyways, we’re sure that most people have a pretty good idea about what they’ll be doing this Thursday night, but we’d also be willing to bet that a lot of you still have no idea. At all.

Life on the Road, Brand New Music and the Musings of Matt Singer and Great Elk

At the tail end of their summer tour, Matt Singer and Great Elk stopped by Club Passim’s Campfire festival a little over a month ago and wowed us with their hilarious lyrics, earnest guitar playing and gypsy-infused folk rock.  Their intimate set onstage at Club Passim seemed a fitting closer to their summer, as Paul [...]

Hometown Haunts of the “Reptile District”: A Look Back on the Toad Residencies of John Powhida and Tim Gearan

The leaves are changing, the kids are back in town, and everyone’s trading in their iced coffee for the real thing as fall has hit full force in Boston.  For the last month of this short-lived summer, Gab, Jessie and I spent at least a night a week at the Lizard Lounge and it’s smaller, [...]

“Call me, TeaParty Girls, the next time you wanna go SAKE BOMBING!”: Shoutouts and Other Whimsies from John Powhida

When I think about the Boston music scene, I think of a big, boisterous group of people who support local music by going to each other’s shows, who promote the releases and events being put on by friends of theirs who also happen to be in local bands, and who can play the “Oh, you [...]

Saturday, August 29th, 2009: “YOU HAVE NO EXCUSE NOT TO COME OUT TONIGHT.”

This Saturday, August 29th, we’re gonna be running around Boston like chickens with our heads cut off and there’s NO GOOD REASON why you shouldn’t be, too, as this is one EPIC EVENING OF MUSIC!  It doesn’t matter if you’re situated way the hell out in Forest Hills or you’re twiddling your thumbs in the [...]
