Supertonic To-Do List

A friend recently said, “I’ll put up with a humid, hot Boston summer day for a Boston summer night anytime.” So true, so true. The city has emptied out and now is the time to sample the best of Boston nightlife. And, the best part is, even though the streets aren’t crowded with co-eds, the clubs and bars of Boston are still jam-packed with the sounds and sights of the best the city has to offer.

You could choose to roll in the season with an afternoon of uncomfortably answering questions from your parents’ friends at your mom’s annual picnic. This year, though, you have another option – Boston Band Crush, Bradley’s Almanac, Exploit Boston!, [...]

A Different Kind of Concert: Baaba Maal Brings People to Their Feet

Shakespeare, Meet the Weather Channel: Stephen Petronio’s “I Drink the Air Before Me”

There’s a lot that can be said about modern dance: it’s often as unconventional as it is incomprehensible. But Stephen Petronio Company’s “I Drink the Air Before Me” (at the ICA March 20-22) is a perfect collision of sound, bodies, space, movement and time.

Alloy Orchestra’s Man With A Movie Camera: Propaganda You Can Dance To

Mix: a Soviet documentary filmmaker, his 1929 silent film magnum opus, the nascent beginnings of the reality television age, and a harmoniously explosive Boston-based junk band. The result? No clear views on what to call it – but it’s got a good beat, and you can dance to it.

Remedy Quarterly Picks Up Where Cookbooks Leave Off

Since the birth of the internet, the printed word has taken a dangerous nosedive. Magazines and newspapers have been closing or laying off huge numbers of their staff. A Typical Tuesday Night at the Whitehaus: TPB Checks It Out

When you show up at the door of the Whitehaus, you won’t find anyone there to X your hands or see your ID, you won’t find anyone there looking to charge you a 7 dollar convenience fee and, if it wasn’t already obvious, you won’t find Barack Obama. But you might find someone like Morgan Shaker who, despite never meeting you before, will let you in, offer you a beer, and start chatting with you about bands and upcoming events that he and his buddies are planning.
