TPB To Do List

11 February 2010 No Comment

Together: The New England Electronic Music Festival has taken Boston by storm (even more so than this light dusting of flakes that crippled downtown) and we will honor that fact by enlisting creative director, David Day, to bring you this weekend’s to-do list.

This is our weekend to-do list. Print it out. Check it off. Enjoy.

P.S. Feel free to add your own events in the comments!

THURSDAY

[ ] Orchard Lounge @ Middle East Downstairs

“Electronic music gets poo-poo’d on all the time for not being ‘live’ music. To that I say, go to this show. It will blow your mind. Orchard Lounge is one thing, BioDiesel and Auto Body are truly insane.”
480 Mass. Ave., Central Sq., Cambridge. 617.864.3278. 8pm/18+/$16 adv, $20 dos

[ ] RiotVine presents Das Racist @ Great Scott

“We had a lot of schedule changes with the great snow panic of 2010, but it sort of worked out. Das Racist gets the headliner slot at this wild and wacky showcase. By the time Pizza Hut/Taco Bell comes on, it will be madness.”
1222 Comm. Ave., Allston. 617.566.9014. 8pm/18+/$6

[ ] Izotope presents Morgan Page @ Felt

“If commercial clubbing is the aim, Morgan Page is the giant of the Billboard chart. And he’s fom Vermont and went to Emerson. Lots of love at this one.”
533 Washington St., Downtown Crossing, Boston. 617.350.5555. 10pm/21+/$5

FRIDAY

[ ] Chiptune 4: Together 4 Evr @ Pozen Center

“This free event spotlights a new type of electronic music: Chiptune music, played with old-school video games and computer sounds. Anyone who’s ever blown into a video game to make it work is going to be thrilled with this stuff.”
MassArt, 621 Huntington Ave., Boston. 617.879.7355. 6pm/all ages/free

[ ] Silent Disco @ Milky Way

“This will be packed, but worth getting there early. You grab wireless headphones and bop to music in an otherwise silent club. Take off the headphones, and all you hear are people talking and singing along to the music.”
284 Amory St., Jamaica Plain. 617.524.3740. 9pm/21+/$5

[ ] Wolfgang Gartner @ Rise

“After-hours are for serious gamers, but Wolfgang Gartner is as current, intense and wild as electronic music gets. If you’re up for a young crowd with young sounds. Double bonus points for you.”
306 Stuart St., Boston. 617.423.7473. 1am-6am/18+/$15 members, $0 VIP badge holders, $20 badge holders, $25 guests

SATURDAY

[ ] Berlin Calling @ Goethe-Institut Boston

“I like this movie a lot. It not only stars one of my favorite current producers, Paul Kalkbrenner, but he’s even a good actor. When he smashes up a record label office it’s pretty priceless.”
170 Beacon St., Boston. 617.262.6050. 4pm/all ages/free

[ ] Electroacoustic Showcase @ New England Conservatory of Music

“Serious business. Another free event, and another that helps to define our festival as more than people slamming their heads into subwoofers.”
Pierce Hall, 241 St. Botolph St., Boston. 8pm/all ages/free

[ ] Nicky Digital @ Good Life

“I used to take pictures for Nicky, I was his Boston rep. I got burned out after three years, but now he’s actually coming up for this festival. An Emerson alum again in the building.”
28 Kingston St., Boston. 617.451.2622. 10pm/21+/$5

SUNDAY

[ ] The Get Together @ Villa Victoria

“A love fest, for vintage, record, gear and fashion collectors all at once. There is also a bomb-ass fashion show at 4pm. By the end of the weekend, everyone is going to know each other, or at least they better at this point, or we have failed.”
85 West Newton St., Boston. 617.927.0061. noon-6pm/free

[ ] Speaking in Code @ Paramount Center

“The other of our free film screenings, I’ll just come clean and say a lot of this film is about my relationship and my relationship with Boston. It’s a beautiful film, though, also starring some of the actually cool people in dance music: Modeselekor, Kompakt people and Ellen Allien.”
445 Washington St., Downtown Crossing. 617.417.2944. Doors at 6:30pm, screening at 7pm. all ages/free with RSVP

[ ] Utopia @ Machine

“Anyone unfamiliar to dance music will be very surprised by Utopia. Instead of bashing beats, it’s all smooth. Instead of hipsters in goggles, it’s loose clothes and sexy dancing. Mardi Gras theme too. Fun in all flavors.”
1254 Boylston St., Boston. 617.536.1950. 9pm/21+/$10
