Saturday September 26th– Union Square Asks “What The Fluff?”

Oh hey did you know that Marshmallow Fluff, the stuff that childhood memories are made of (or at least stuck together with), was invented in Somerville? The awesomely named Archibald Query developed the marshmallow creme in his Somerville kitchen in 1917, and then hit the road to sell it door-to-door. When WWI sugar rationing started effecting his business, Query sold the recipe to some big wig candy makers.
This Saturday, Union Square will honor Query and his Marshmallow Fluff with a celebration replete with live music, cooking contests (sign up here) and, of course, all the requisite fun that goes along with street festivals. TPB faves the Rex Complex will perform along with Jordan Valentine & the Sunday Saints and Los Sugar Kings, as well as something called “Flufferettes.”
The event also happens to coincide with September Sip & Shop at the square’s Grand. They’ll be showcasing Bear Flag wine, which we’re assuming pairs well with Fluffernutters.
