This Sunday, Leblon Cachaça (remember them?) and local Caipirinha enthusiasts will wield signs and other protest paraphernalia on a march throughout the city  as part of a national awareness campaign to legalize Cachaça. What? You didn’t know Cachaça was illegal? Well, it’s not. But! The U.S. is the only country in the world which makes Brazilians label their beloved Cachaça as “Brazilian Rum.” Says Jackson Cannon of Eastern Standard, “Just like Cognac, Champagne, and Tequila, Cachaça has its own unique character, culture, and history, and the Brazilians deserve to have their national spirit recognized by its national name: Cachaça.”

But don’t you worry, hope is on the horizon. We’ve received reports that the U.S. government’s TTB is in the process of eliminating the pesky labeling requirements. Don’t backtrack the whole thing because you were too lazy to take to the streets with some huge green signs. Cachaça needs your support! And, c’mon, this lady did it.

In celebration of Brazilian independence, Leblon is hosting marches this week in 10 cities throughout the United States, including Los Angeles, Miami, New York, and San Francisco, each with the promise of cocktail specials and “Brazilian good times.” Whatever that means. Check out the rundown of Boston events below.
